We first engaged with Fathom when we started looking at building our new website. We wanted to represent the voice of the customer and people throughout the organisation within the designs of the new website. We found them to be a great partner in the build and design of our new website not only researching our customers for CX but also helping us translate that into a revolutionary UX for a Irish Retail banking website. Fathom led the Presbyterian Church in Ireland through a very important web project, constantly reinforcing the central role the user should play in our thinking and planning. PSNI engaged Fathom with the purpose of developing and delivering a new website for the organisation with a key objective of improving community engagement alongside driving certain areas of demand through the new platform such as crime reporting. In order to do this they needed to deliver collaboratively with our branding and web agencies (Genesis and Engage), work alongside a wide range of internal stakeholders to understand how the site would support operational policing and glean insight from the wider community to understand how the website could best serve them. They also needed to have an in–depth understanding of many of our operational processes. The site has only been live for six months and already has met or exceeded all of its identified KPIs. Fathom’s role in helping us to fully understand customer and user needs, and working alongside our various partners was central in achieving this.

In 2017, our UX partners at Fathom carried out an invaluable series of remote and moderated usability tests of our discovernorthernireland.com website. Testing with users closely aligned to our personas, Fathom worked hard to design and execute tests aimed to uncover user–driven behavioural insight into the key issues with our site. The tests got to the heart of the experience for users from exploring overall site navigation, to the travel research experience, through to the ease of use of functional tools on the site, from saving and sharing itineraries and trips. Fathom’s research and subsequent prioritised recommendations document, enriched with video highlights, have given us clear guidance as to key areas of focus and attention with regards to fresh look at design, as we embark on a future website strategy. We look forward to working with Fathom again to keep user–insight and experience at the centre of our digital roadmap as we move forward into implementation.
