Senior UX Researcher

Belfast / Remote based in UK / IRE

Introduction

As a UX Researcher in Fathom, your role will be to increase the capability within our multidisciplinary team to drive results for our clients through human–centred design and stand–alone research projects. You will be primarily responsible for steering and delivering the research on individual projects. This will include originating, conducting, analysing, and reporting on human–centred design research for Fathom clients across multiple concurrent projects. We offer a competitive salary in excess of £40k per annum, dependant on experience and competencies.

The Senior UX Researcher role demands experience and ability in the following areas:

1.    Core UX Research

    Deliver and practice an analytical and empirical evidence–driven approach to problem solving

    Promote knowledge throughout the company in research best practice and achieving reliable insights

    Collaborate with the wider team to capture the key gaps in knowledge about our clients’ users. Identify and choose the most effective research activities to fill those gaps while forever mindful of project time versus cost

    Plan and conduct primary research to uncover the behaviour, goals and motivations of users 

    Develop user surveys and other quantitative studies and synthesize research to uncover key themes and direction of travel

    Produce optimum artifacts and deliverables to communicate research with clarity

    Ensure storytelling, communication and persuasion techniques are effectively used to ensure user needs are high on the agenda for stakeholders and clients

    Plan and facilitate usability testing on prototypes and higher fidelity products and services

    Summarise and communicate research findings and results succinctly through compelling artifacts

    Choose the most appropriate research method(s) to suit the UX or Service Design project and user needs and develop through the ongoing improvement of our learning plans

    Interpret usability principles and guidelines and use them to identify likely problems in digital interfaces or in–Service Design

    Choose the most appropriate format for sharing findings and recommendations: e.g. a report, a presentation, a daily stand–up or a highlights video

    Persuade the design team and / or stakeholders to act on the insights from research

    2.    UX Leadership

    Mentor and support the research conducted by other researchers and colleagues, to ensure the insight gathered is useful, actionable and delivered to a high standard

    Evangelise user–centred research throughout the organisation, working closely with other members of the research team, to ensure alignment in regard to best practice, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

    Ensure that Fathom’s research practices, use of research and client participant data is compliant with data protection law and guidance

    Coach and mentor colleagues within the research function of the business

    Work with the Head of Delivery to review current, research new and embed familiarity with research tools and software

    Manage appropriate relationships and contracts with 3rd party suppliers that support the research function within the business

    Work alongside an experienced senior leadership team to continue to grow the business, contributing where applicable to sales pitches and stakeholder engagement

    Work closely with the Head of Delivery to continually monitor and improve use and effectiveness of UX research processes

    Contribute to the thought leadership efforts of the organisation

    Be assistive to the CEO, Planning Team and Head of Delivery in supporting the creation of end–to–end project approaches together

    2.    Additional duties and responsibilities

    Translate research into user–centred stories about the way interactions should work

    Develop skills in and advise on Knowledge of UI design patterns which are evidenced in research

    3.    Relevant performance criteria
